Abstract

Malibu Cliffs by Vahe Yeremyan
Existing on a continuum, abstraction can range from barely abstracted (a reasonable attempt to copy exactly what one sees) to total abstraction, which includes no identifiable real-world objects or figures. At first it is hard to understand such a vast subject, but it's really best to think of it this way: a photograph has the least amount of abstraction possible and Jackson Pollock -- along with other famous artists like Rothko, Albers, and Miro -- represents complete abstraction. The abstract paintings and drawings collected here include subjects you can identify and totally abstracted pieces which are very popular right now. See curated Abstract art

Landscapes

Play of Lights by Vahe Yeremyan
Many people who buy landscape art seek to experience the outside world at home or in an office. Common landscape scenes include meadows and wildflowers, forests, mountains, and farm land. Often these landscape artworks — including paintings, drawings, and photographs — highlight a particular season. Selecting multiple pieces of art to be displayed in a prominent location is a creative way to introduce seasonal decoration to your home without kitschy overload. On this page we've curated wall art for sale, including abstract landscapes. See curated Landscapes art

Seascapes & Water

Lily pond. Wavy mirror by Zhanna Kondratenko
The allure of the sea is a timeless yearning for so many of us, and artists are no different. Whether you are drawn to stormy seascapes, beach scenes and bathers, rivers and ponds, or vast oceans of blue portrayed at any time of day, there is a painting you'll love. These pieces were created by living artists who share your love of water. See curated Seascapes & Water art

Flora (Plants & Flowers)

Claude Monet White Water Lilies by Mishyra Vladimir
Among the world's most popular subjects, plants and flowers have been prominently featured the art world for centuries. While the lifespan of flowers in particular is fleeting, art depicting flowers lasts forever. Nature is said to be good for our souls, but if you don't live near nature getting some on your walls is a great idea. These artworks of various flora, abstract and realistic, would look great in your home or office. See curated Flora (Plants & Flowers) art

Fauna (Animals)

Con el tiempo by Felix Murillo
Like people, humans have been creating representations of animals since the dawn of the drawing stick. In nature, our encounters with animals are typically fleeting, but in art we can hold that image permanently. Many humans are drawn to animals because they seem pure, not bogged down by human trivialities. Pictures of animals, like people, can reflect our own emotions back at us, sometimes evoking new emotions from the ones we're already feeling. Having art of animals on your walls gives you something to connect to everyday. See curated Fauna (Animals) art

Night Skies

Distance by Laura Blue Palmer
Like oceans, night skies tend to evoke a feeling of limitlessness in us puny humans. They also often create a sense of connectedness to the past, as the celestial objects above us are the same ones humans have been viewing since we first evolved (though far fewer of them are visible these days due mostly to light pollution). When you bring a piece of art depicting the night sky into your home, you can stir up feelings of hope, curiosity, and relaxation. Night sky art is great for bedrooms and brightly lit spaces. Sunrises & Sunsets

Setting Sun by Laura Blue Palmer
As night skies and oceans evoke limitlessness, sunrises and sunsets express the finite. Each day starts and ends with one, marking time and our personal accomplishments. Nature comes up with some pretty incredible displays, but I have never heard a person say they didn't find a showy sunrise or sunset to be moving and worthy of pausing for a moment. It's always best to get out and see a real sunset (or sunrise if you like to get up early) with your own eyes, but if that's challenging for your lifestyle, bringing the rich colors of a sunrise or a sunset into your home or office in the form of art is the next best thing. People

Balkan Baroque by Tijana Titin
As long as humans have picked up a device to draw with, we have been drawing people. Whether for storytelling or portraiture, or just plain respect for the human form, there is a practically unlimited amount of art depicting people out there. Whether you choose a painting of a famous person because you admire them, or something more anonymous but in a style you love — abstract, realistic, impressionistic, etc. — you'll find that having people-centric art brings life to your home or office. Everyday Objects

Not every piece of art is profound, nor does it need to be. Sometimes we respond to the quotidian, appreciating the details that make our lives what they are. Coffee cups, still lifes, bicycles, you name it — they all fill our daily existence and stopping to appreciate these luxuries by showcasing them in an artwork for your home or office can bring you back to present every time you glance their way.
