Sometimes serendipity is supreme. I was looking for a piece of art that had a color wheel represented in it when I stumbled across this delight. I immediately was drawn to it because it reminded me of Hilma af Klint, recently reintroduced to art lovers via the most popular exhibition ever at the Guggenheim. Only later, when I was exploring other works by Kuypers, did I learn those were chairs, a favorite subject of the artist. And now I’m a fan. -JF

About the Artist

Artist Herman Kuypers
Kuypers graduated in 1990 at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg in drawing and painting. Since that time he has worked on a collection dominated by chairs depicted in very different ways. Perspective is another important element in these works. These works are drawn with pencil or painted with watercolor.
